PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Last night's shooting and SWAT situation happened around 9 p.m. on Municipal Drive in the Sheldon Park housing complex in Harrison Township.

Alegheny County Police say officers and paramedics responding to a 911 call about the shooting found two people were wounded, a 41-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter. Both are hospitalized. The woman is listed in critical condition and the teen in stable condition.

They were reportedly shot by 48-year-old Eddie Layne, who was living temporarily with his ex-wife and son at Sheldon Park.

Witnesses told police Layne believed his neighbors were spying on him, became agitated and wounded both women with a shotgun before retreating into the apartment.

As a SWAT team was setting up a perimeter and evacuating neighbors, Layne's ex-wife called 911 to say he had killed himself. Officers entered the apartment and confirmed the Layne had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say Layne suffered from mental illness for over twenty years.
