Earth Day is April  22nd, but that doesn’t stop Pittsburgh from starting the celebration early!

From road side clean-ups to a bar crawl, here are some fun events happening around Pittsburgh prior to Earth Day: 

Wednesday, April 17th: The celebrations kick off with the Pittsburgh Earth Day Sustainability Business Breakfast. The morning will be spent with experts talking about Pittsburgh’s sustainable business community, and will discuss how your organization can go green. Thursday, April 18th: The Ecolution Fashion Show will take place at the Fairmont Hotel, featuring a recycled and reused material runway fashion show by local designers. For more info, click here.

Friday, April 19th and Saturday, April 20th: Paint the Square in Market Square from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.! Live music, local vendors specializing in Earth-friendly products, and more! Get info here.

Friday, April 19th and Saturday, April 20th: Food trucks will be camping out on Smithfield Street across from the Oliver Building from 11 a.m.-2p.m. While celebrating Earth Day, grab something to eat from BRGR, Evil Swine BBQ, Oh My Grill, PGH Halal Food, Sugar and Spice, Burgh Bites, Bulldawgs, Cool Beans, Fry Master Truck, Halal Food Truck, Hoshi & Hoshi Too, Terrene and The Wok of Life.

Saturday, April 20th: Celebrate Earth Day weekend at “FutureFest 2019” for a glimpse of the world of tomorrow and the region’s sustainable future.  Free fun for all ages -- including art, demonstrations, performance, science and hands-on activities – will take place from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Buhl Park in the Northside adjacent to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. A new component of the 2019 biennial festival presented by Communitopia will be the integration of Pennsylvania Resources Council’s “ReuseFest” to collect a wide variety of materials.  PRC’s eighth annual ReuseFest will collect bikes, medical supplies, usable building materials, household and kitchen items, gently used furniture and bedding, pet supplies, clothing and much more.  

Saturday, April 20th: Bar Crawl for a tree! From 1p.m.-5p.m., the Great Lakes Brewing Company will have a tent set up in Market Square to pass out a Pub Crawl Passport. Participants will have to go to each of the seven participating bars and have one beer to get their passport stamped. Once completed, participants will return  to the Great Lakes Brewing Company tent and, for every 5 passports received, Great Lakes will plant a tree.

Saturday, April 20th: Girty’s Run Earth Day Cleanup
Meet at Tazza D’Oro Café & Espresso Bar (524 Grant Ave.) in Millvale at 9 a.m. to help Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful by participating in a roadside cleanup.
