A 2018 PA Primary Review

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The results are in. The nasty ads are finally over. People can now watch the news without seeing political candidates bashing one another over and over, for a few weeks.

Scott Wagner will be the GOP candidate for governor and will face off against Tom Wolf this November. Both men are from York County and have known each other for a long time.

KDKA-TV’s Jon Delano tells the KDKA Morning News it should be a very tight and competitive race.

“Pennsylvania is never a done deal, statewide for either party,” Delano said.

Wolf told the KDKA Radio Morning News on Tuesday that every republican candidate would make a tough opponent.

The lieutenant governor for the GOP will be Jeff Bartos who won by a landslide and the lieutenant governor for the democratic side will feature John Fetterman.

One of the more surprising victories came closer to Pittsburgh.  Sarah Innamorato defeated Dom Costa in Democratic Primary for House District 21, and Summer Lee defeated Paul Costa in 34th House District of the Democratic Party.

John Delano gave some reason as to why these women came out on top.

“Amazing victory for these two young women and it essentially sends a message to the Democrats. There are a lot of old style Democrats in this region who are pro-gun and pro-life and these women are saying you [got to] be more progressive or liberal on certain issues.”

Delano believes this kind of grassroots campaigning works in the city district. People listened to what these women candidates were saying.

Lou Barletta will be representing Pennsylvania for the U.S. Senate GOP in November, and will go head-to-head against Bob Casey.

“It’s hard to imagine Bob Casey vulnerable, but then it was hard to imagine any of the Costas vulnerable. Nothing is a done deal,” said Delano.

Over the last few years Bob Casey has been campaigning better than he has in the past. He is a popular name, and sometimes that is all you need to attract votes.

Another exciting primary is in the books. It was a great race and we will have to wait a few more months to see who will win the actual election.
