The 61 new cases is 24 more compared to Thursday and brings the county’s total since the beginning of the outbreak to 2,382 with 207 of those cases coming this week alone.

Also, two additional deaths are being reported for a total of 186 confirmed or probably.

One additional hospitalization brings the total of those treated past or present to 379.

A majority of the cases are in the age range 25-49 with 65+ next followed by 50-64.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald warns that numbers could continue to rise.

"When you see the cases start to go up, then you worry that two weeks, three weeks later the hospitalizations, the intensive care, ICU demand, all those things are going to happen,” Fitzgerald said on KDKA Radio.

While daily hospitalization numbers remain low, they lag behind coronavirus positive test numbers, so officials will be looking very closely if that number rises over the next week or two.

Earlier this week Health Director Dr. Debra Bogen said the rise in cases is “concerning”, while UPMC’s Dr. Donald Yealy said we need to shift focus away from the number of cases and look more at the number of those hospitalized.

The PA Department of Health reports that 50,253 people have tested negative for coronavirus.

You can see how many people have been infected in your neighborhood using the county’s interactive map.
