The 7th Annual It’s About the Warrior Foundation Golf Tournament will take place this Friday, June 22 at Olde Stonewall Golf Club in Ellwood City.

It’s About the Warrior Foundation strives to help post 9/11 veterans and their families.

The founder and president of the organization, Steve Monteleone, joined the KDKA Radio Morning news to explain the foundation and how it was created. He said,

“A bunch of friends and I were golfing out there at Olde Stonewall and I just brought it up to them. ‘You want to have a golf event and raise money for veterans?’ Who ever thought seven years later it would turn out what it is.”

He wants to provide veterans with things they are struggling with.

“There are a lot of issues; financial difficulties, finding a job, securing a job, and housing as well. It’s also the mental side of it; post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury,” Monteleone said.

Veterans need a voice, especially when they are upset. He added,

“If you have somebody that’s frustrated, what I tell people is just listen to them. Let them vent. Let them get it off their chest.”

It is important to keep veterans busy. Steve and his volunteers find events and other activities for them to enjoy.

“Every Wednesday night at our office in Wexford we have what’s called It’s About the Warrior Foundation Wednesday Musters. We just have guys come in, we hang out, play cards, play corn hole, have a good time and talk,” said Monteleone.
