PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – The 911th Airlift Wing in Coraopolis celebrated their newly selected commander, Col. Douglas N. Strawbridge, with a ceremony Friday morning.

As part of the on-going conversion from the C-130 Hercules to the newer airframe C-17 Globemaster III, the ceremony also recognized the transfer of command authority from 22nd Air Force to 4th Air Force.

Strawbridge addressed the crowd at the 911th Airlift Wing following his assumption of command.

"We're going to move out hard," he said. "I know we're converting, but that doesn't mean we're not going to try to improve and get better at everything we do. So, we're not just going to wait for conversion to get better. We're going get better while we're converting."

As part of the transition, the Wing will assume a new role within the Department of the Air Force as it moves into a strategic airlift mission with the C-17s. They have capabilities to carry more cargo and personnel over greater distances than the C-130s.
