PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Allegheny Health Network says one of four planned neighborhood hospitals will be built in Brentwood.

The facilities are aimed at those needing immediate care or short hospital stays without having to travel to locations such as the North Side or Bloomfield.

Last December, it was announced a neighborhood hospital would be built in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County.

AHN says it's also eyeing locations in McCandless and Harmar for future sites. The facilities are expected to open in 2019.

The Brentwood location still must get approval of the Brentwood borough's council before construction get begin, but Brentwood Mayor Dennis H. Troy said in a statement:

“We are thrilled at the prospect of Allegheny Health Network bringing this new model of health care to our community,” said Troy. “Having improved access to emergency care and other high-quality health services will be a wonderful asset for the many people who call Brentwood home, as well as for those who live in our neighboring communities. AHN’s neighborhood hospital also will have a very positive economic impact on our community, not only bringing more jobs to the borough, but also contributing to our tax revenue base.”
