PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - There is new controversy plaguing the Aliquippa police department. The man who was just promoted to acting Police Chief has been arrested.

The Beaver County District Attorney's office says Joseph Perciavalle was arrested Friday morning and charged with sending sexually explicit material to a minor.

Police say they discovered the material while reviewing instant messages on the phone of a minor as part of another investigation.

The message was confirmed to come from Perciavalle's phone and he was arrested. No additional details have been released.

Perciavalle took over the department Wednesday night when chief Donald Couch was placed on paid administrative leave. The reason for that action has not been explained.

The Aliquippa police department has been the subject of a state grand jury and state police investigation. Authorities raided the department in March taking computers and other records.
