PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020) - At Tuesday night’s Arnold city council meeting, hundreds of protesters petitioned Arnold Mayor Karen Peconi to resign, but she refused.

Instead, she apologized for a controversial social media comment that critics call racist.

Mayor Peconi posted on her Facebook page that those protesting the shooting death of 17-year-old Antwon Rose by an East Pittsburgh Police Officer should be sprayed with a water cannon and implied the protesters do not have jobs.

Since Peconi is refusing to resign, Arnold City Council has decided to send a letter to Governor Wolf and the Senate requesting Peconi’s removal.
