November 08, 2018 - 10:49 am

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Bishop David Zubik will host four listening sessions following the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report on child sex abuse and cover up in six Pennsylvania dioceses, including Pittsburgh.

In a release, the diocese says the bishop wants to hear thoughts, concerns and suggestions from parishioners and others.

Survivors of child sexual abuse by clergy and their family members, as well as parishioners are invited to share their feelings and struggles.

Bishop Zubik will be present, but lay leaders will facilitate. Once all of the sessions have been held, the bishop will prepare a pastoral response with the help of the facilitators.

The sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held as follows:

  • Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 Saint Paul Cathedral at 108 N. Dithridge St. in Oakland
  • Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 Saint Thomas à Becket Church at 139 Gill Hall Rd. in Jefferson Hills
  • Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 Our Lady of Fatima Church 2270 Brodhead Rd. in Hopewell Township
  • Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 Saint Ferdinand Church at 2535 Rochester Rd. in Cranberry Township

“Child sexual abuse by clergy has caused great suffering in the lives of survivors of abuse and concern among the faithful,” Bishop Zubik said. “These listening sessions are intended to be another way that we can support their continued healing.”
