PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - City Councilwoman Darlene Harris has served on Pittsburgh City Council for over 10 years but Tuesday night she was upset by Technologist Bobby Wilson.

The 36-year-old, 5th generation North Sider tells KDKA Radio’s Lynne Hayes-Freeland while there has been growth throughout the city, the North Side has been left out of that growth.

“We got to make sure that it still remains a place for everyone,” said Wilson. “There’s a lot of areas in our neighborhood that are just street by street, one street is doing well, one street is not doing so well, so have to make sure that all these areas are coming up together.”

Wilson had the endorsement of Mayor Bill Peduto but he says that doesn’t mean he will be a rubber stamp for the mayor.

“I’m a North Sider first,” said Wilson.

Wilson says he had a lot of support from the service workers union and called them “the backbone of the North Side”.

Outside of his job, Wilson is the president of the community group in his hometown of Spring Hill, “and I also work(ing) with all of our neighborhoods on the North Side Leadership Conference Board.”

Wilson beat Harris 57 to 33 percent. A third candidate Mark Brentley Sr. had 10 percent of the vote.
