How You Can Help Those Affected By Hurricane Florence

Local charity Brother's Brother says 100% of what they get goes toward relief

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) – Over the past few years, there have been a number of devastating natural disasters; including hurricanes that have either affected or are affecting places like Puerto Rico, Texas and now North and South Carolina.

After these upsetting disasters occur, many feel a desire to help those affected by donating food/water, money, clothes, shelter, etc.

Luke Hingson, President of the Brother’s Brothers Foundation tells the KDKA Radio Afternoon News, “First if someone is willing to give cash, I would recommend it.  If they give it to the Brother’s Brother Foundation in Pittsburgh, our policy is 100% in, 100% out.”

“If someone gives $1 to help people in the Carolina’s after a hurricane, that’s what we want to give the people in the Carolina’s.  We don’t want to keep any of it in Pittsburgh; we want to help the people who are supposed to get help.”

 Hingson said that the reason they like cash for locomotion.

“We are getting donations of items coming from other charities and corporations, so we need the money for locomotion of the items or to buy something in quantity.”

Hingson also shared ways for those who want to help but don’t have the money to donate.

“The day will come when it gets dryer and volunteer teams will need to go down to help people who are elderly or incapacitated with just cleaning out their homes.”
