HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - During an appearance in Harrisburg, a top Canadian diplomat in the US made a direct appeal to state lawmakers on the issue of trade between the two nations.

Canadian Consul General In New York Phyllis Yaffe addressed the Pennsylvania House at the beginning of a session day – a time usually reserved for occasions like honoring champion high school lacrosse teams.

Many times an appearance by a dignitary like Yaffe is just an exchange of pleasantries.

But in the wake of recent developments, if President Trump’s tariffs on steel were the elephant in the room Yaffe did not ignore it.

“Nowhere in the United States will this be felt more strongly than right here in Pennsylvania, where so many companies either rely on Canada as a market for their steel, or rely on Canadian steel to supply their shops.” Said Yaffe

Yaffe echoed her prime minister’s sentiment that the tariffs are “insulting.”
