Are you addicted to your smart phone?  Do you spend hours on end every day scrolling through social media, writing emails, and exploring the web?  Do you wish you spent less time on your phone and more time being productive living your life?  If you answered yes to any of these questions well you are in luck.

Today on the Mike Pintek Show, Mike and Journalist and Author Catherine Price, talked about her book, “How to Break Up With Your Phone” that released February 13th.

In the book, Catherine explores ways to break up with your phone, and then make up with your phone, allowing you to create a healthy relationship with your phone.

Catherine decided to break up with her phone about two years ago.  She told Mike, “I was getting a gradually daunting awareness that I was on my phone an awful lot.  But I had a pivotal moment when I had a baby, and I was sitting in a dark room with her one night.  I was sleep deprived, and I had this momentary out of body experience where I could see my baby looking up at me and me looking at my phone.  In that moment, I realized I didn’t want this to be my daughter’s first impression of what a human relationship was.  In that moment, I realized I needed to make some changes.”

Catherine explains that when she is telling you to break up with your phone she doesn’t mean to get rid of it completely.  But take a step back and find ways to create a healthier relationship with it.

She said that the most important thing to do is, “Start paying attention to the moments when you are on your phone and you don’t know how you got there.  And then use that as an opportunity to ask is this really what I want to be doing right now with my time?”

Catherine suggests figuring out what you personally want to do with your time and life.  Live in the moment and enjoy the people around you, instead of spending all your time with your face in your phone.
