CENTER TWP. (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — A gas line explosion awakened people early Monday morning in Beaver County, creating an orange fireball and lighting up the sky in Center Township.

It happened just before 5:00 a.m. near Ivy Lane, prompting evacuation of 25 to 30 homes along Brodhead Road through assistance from first responders and the automated Reverse 911 system.

The 24-inch line is owned and operated by Energy Transfer Corp. Crews from the Dallas-based energy company shut off isolation valves on either side of the rupture and allowed the remaining gas to burn off.

One home, two garages and several cars were destroyed. No injuries were reported.

The explosion caused high tension power lines to fall across several nearby roads.

The Beaver Valley Expressway closed in both directions between the Center Township and the City of Aliquippa.

Central Valley School District has cancelled all classes Monday.
