PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Clairton Coke Works Steelworkers voted unanimously to authorize a strike Wednesday night.

United Steelworkers chapters throughout the country must also vote to approve the strike.

Authorization would union leadership to call a strike during ongoing contract negotiations with U.S. Steel that were extended on Saturday.

About 700 union members from Allegheny, Fayette and Washington Counties voted.

Should union leaders declare a strike, they must provide 48 hours’ notice.
