PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh Congressman Mike Doyle thinks President Trump’s State of the Union speech came “off well” Tuesday night but there are two sides to the president.

“There’s teleprompter Trump and there’s Twitter Trump and when the president sticks to the script and reads the speech that his staff writes for him it comes off well and I think (Tuesday) night was an example of that,” said Doyle. “The problem with teleprompter Trump is the next morning Twitter Trump wakes up and those nice unifying things he said turn into something different.”

While “the devil’s in the details” when it comes to issues like infrastructure and lowering prescription drug prices Doyle believes Democrats can work with the president to solve those problems and that “we’re going to give him the benefit of the doubt on these things and hope he moves forward with them

Doyle is like a lot of Democrats who oppose funding a border wall.

“That’s not the best way to secure the border so what we’d be doing in effect is taking tax payer dollars and not using them as efficiently and effectively as we could be using them.”

Doyle says the best way to secure the border is to “get more personnel down there, to get better equipment down there and to use the technology that is available to use us to help secure the border.”

The Congressman adds there are parts of the border that do need a barrier but he believes a wall along the entire southern border would be a big waste of money.

Doyle tells Larry and John conference committee is working out a compromise on border security, and the president will have to decide if he's going to sign it.
