PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Last week, President Trump announced tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, now Congressman Mike Kelly says he supports the President's decision.

President Trump will most likely sign the trade measures this week which would put a 25% tariff on foreign steel shipments and a 10% tariff on foreign aluminum shipments. Kelly believes it's a way for the United States to stand up for itself.

"Steel, especially carbon steel, the overcapacity and how other nations are using their ability to go ahead and gain that system and subsidize it in a way that we can't," he told KDKA Radio on Friday. "Somebody needs to ring the bell and say 'hey, it's time to stop.'"

As a result, the European Union is now considering a tariff on American products like bourbon and Levi's Jeans.

Kelly said President Trump will most likely face backlash for anything he does.

"You can't forfeit the game and then cry about losing," he said. "We should stand up every day for every challenge we have and defend who we are as a people and not let the rest of the world take advantage of us."
