Consumer Alert Issued For Popular Mexican Restaurant

Las Velas in Market Square is cited for multiple violations

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for popular Market Square restaurant Las Velas.

According to the health department roaches were seen in the kitchen.

In addition, the Mexican restaurant at 21 Market Square was written up for violations of improper cooling, food being held at improper cold and hot holding temps, personal hygiene issues, a lack of a food safety manager and more.

Las Velas, owned by David Montanez, has operated in Market Square for the past 10 years.

The restaurant was partially destroyed by fire in 2010 but was rebuilt and reopened in 2011.
