On Sunday, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen announced that bars and restaurants will be temporarily banned from selling alcohol for on-site consumption in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Fitzgerald told KDKA Radio’s Morning Show on Monday that he doesn’t know how long the order will be in place.

“The numbers determine everything,” said Fitzgerald. “If you’d ask me a week ago would I thought that would be here this week? No, I didn’t. It really comes down to the numbers, the science and the health experts.”

Dr. Bogen says contact tracing shows that a large amount of cases come from people going out to bars or going out to state and returning.

She adds only a few cases have been linked to large outdoor gatherings or protests around the city.

The Allegheny County Health Department has a digital map that can be used to follow the positive cases and their locations and densities across the county.
