PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Police in Whitehall say they have received multiple calls about a coyote in the area with a skin condition.

Officials say people have also been calling the South Hills Area Cooperative Animal Control and that the coyote has a condition called mange.

If anyone sees the coyote, they are asked to call the Whitehall Police Department at 412-884-1100.

The best way to keep a pet out of your area is to eliminate all food sources and making sure your garbage is secured in its container and consider eliminating any bird feeders in your yard.

Authorities also remind people to not approach or let your pets interact with wild animals.

Please call the Whitehall Police Department at 412-884-1100 if you see this animal out and about.

Mange is caused by parasitic bites and can be spread to other animals and occasionally humans.

The disease causes itchy skin, hair loss, sores and lesions and scabby or scaly skin.
