PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Democrat Pam Iovino claimed victory Tuesday night in the special election for a vacant state Senate seat.

It was mostly red for the last 50 years until Tuesday.

With 100 Percent of precincts reporting Iovino won 53 percent to Raja’s 46 percent. 58,224 people voted in the special election.

The local businessman conceded to the Navy veteran around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday by phone.

She's replacing Guy Reschenthaler, who's now a Congressman.

National spectators of the race believe the win gives Democrats momentum heading to the 2020 election.

In the commonwealth, Democrats now need to flip three seats to turn the state Senate blue in 2020.
