Hunter Warning: Fatal EEE Virus Found In 5 PA Counties

EEE is transmitted by mosquitoes and can kill humans, birds and horses

HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A warning to Pennsylvania hunters: A potentially fatal virus has been confirmed in five counties in the commonwealth.

EEE is transmitted by mosquitoes, and has been found in Carbon, Monroe, Erie, Luzerne and Mercer Counties.

It can kill humans, birds and horses.

Hunters should use bug spray, especially at dusk, wear gloves when dressing animals and cook meat thoroughly.

EEE symptoms include high fever, headache, stiff neck and lack of energy. ​
