PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Finding a parking space in the Strip District can be a challenge. Starting today, it’ll be harder along Smallman Street when a construction project gets started.

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority is replacing 36" and 12" water mains and rerouting sewer lines. PWSA's Bob Weimer tells the KDKA Radio Morning News: "We're going to create a lane of construction and have two lanes of traffic. The construction lane will change a little bit as we complete each section."

That means no parking spaces on Smallman between 16th and 21st, but Weimer says interim spaces are available at a lot at the corner of Smallman and 15th with a shuttle to the Strip's business district. "We made accomodations with one of the local developers to use their lot and we have a second lot that we are negotiating access to."

PWSA says the project will take at least eight months, with a completion date in January.
