Final Piece Of 'Steel Curtain' Installed; Test Runs Expected Soon

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Before you know it, “The Steel Curtain” and “Steelers Country” will be open at Kennywood.

On Friday, workers installed the final piece of the new coaster that will set three records.

The coaster, made by S&S Worldwide, features the tallest inversion of 197 feet, carries 24 passengers at a time and is be 220 feet high and will reach a top speed of 75 mph.

Kennywood Spokesperson Nick Paradise tells KDKA Radio, “Right now we are finishing up construction, tightening all the bolts around the structure and track and making sure all is ready for the first test run to hopefully happen very soon!”

The partnership with the Steelers and project was announced last July with construction beginning shortly after.

“Steelers County” is a three-acre area will feature a Steelers logo water feature, a dining area called the “End Zone Café” and other outdoor places to get food.

There will also be Steeler themed midway games and a Steelers experience building that give kids and adult a chance to test their football skills.
