Re-Elected Fitzgerald Says Democrats Need Moderate Candidate To Win PA In 2020

The County Executive was congratulated by Joe Biden after his victory Tuesday

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Incumbent Rich Fitzgerald will serve one more term as Allegheny County Executive.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden helped Democrat Fitzgerald celebrate his final win Tuesday night.

On KDKA Radio Wednesday morning, Fitzgerald told Larry and John the Democrats need to settle on a moderate candidate for the 2020 election,

“I think if we have a candidate who comes in here and signs on to something like the new green deal or shutting down the energy industry we would deliver Western Pennsylvania and the country four more years of Donald Trump.”

He added whoever wants to win the presidency should not oppose the shale and gas industry.

“You cannot win the White House as a Democrat without winning Pennsylvania and you can’t win Pennsylvania without doing well in Western Pennsylvania so it is critical that we have a moderate candidate,” said Fitzgerald.

He says the energy industry is crucial to more rural Western Pennsylvania communities that went red in the 2016 presidential election and that the Pittsburgh region is becoming the energy hub of the country.
