Four New Positive COVID-19 Tests Among Port Authority Employees, Brings Total To 21

    PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Four more Port Authority of Allegheny County employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

    The Port Authority said three of the four tested positive on July 4 and the other on July 8. All four are said to be recovering at home.

    The new cases brings the total number of Port Authority employee cases to 21.


    The employees include a mechanic at the Authority's South Hills Junction facility who last worked on June 30, a bus operator at the East Liberty garage who last worked on June 27, a bus operator out of the West Mifflin garage who last worked on June 28 and an auto shop employee who works out of the South Hills Junction facility who last worked on July 2.

    All four have been medically directed self-quarantine. 

    “This continues to be a trying time for our agency, the region and our nation as cases have begun increases again in recent weeks,” Port Authority CEO Katharine Kelleman said in a recent letter to all employees. “On behalf of myself, our Board and our entire management team, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued efforts to keep our transit system running so we can connect customers to hospitals, grocery stores and other businesses and services as the region continues its efforts to reopen and recover.”
