PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Giant Eagle has expanded its home delivery service to downtown. The region’s largest grocery chain will charge $12.95 for same day service and $9.95 for next-day delivery.

“Last year, we began testing grocery delivery in a limited number of zip codes in the south hill” Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan said in a statement. “Here’s what we’ve learned: customers love the option of home delivery.”

Mayor Bill Peduto , who took a delivery Monday at the mayor’s office, says it’s a nice option to have.

“To have driver service that will provide groceries to every apartment, every condominium, everybody that’s living downtown, and it’s just another option today.”

Giant Eagle has also begun delivery to Strip District, North Side, South Side and Mount Washington.

The produce, meat and bakery items delivered to City Hall today will be donated to 412 Food Rescue.
