PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - When Pennsylvania lawmakers return to session later this month, Governor Tom Wolf is calling on them to consider reforming the state's charter school law.

The governor tells KDKA radio, “To make sure that charter schools, which are tax payer funded, have the same level of accountability as traditional public schools,” said Wolf.

And Wolf may have some support in the Republican controlled legislature.

Representative Curt Sonney of Erie, who chairs the House Education Committee, says he agrees revisions to the 1997 charter school law are long overdue.

A coalition of public charter schools says they haven't been consulted on any of the governor's proposed reforms.
