PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A popular bar on Butler Street in Lawrenceville was padlocked by the county Thursday afternoon.

Hambone’s at 4207 was closed around 1 p.m. after Allegheny County Treasure John Weinstein said in a news release the bar has failed to pay over $13,000 in taxes.

The taxes are part of the Allegheny County drink tax that according to the county’s website “provides revenues to the country though a 7% addition to the cost of consumption alcohol purchased with in Allegheny County.”

There is no exception to the tax.

There has been a 7 percent tax on alcohol in Allegheny County since 2009.

The bar’s website says Hambone’s has been over for over 30 years.
