PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Severe weather shut down two major roads in the South Hills Wednesday night.

Heavy rain produced flash flooding on Route 51 and Becks Run Road. The water was high enough to float a large dumpster on 51, where crews worked overnight to get the road reopened. Heavy equipment was brought in for mud removal.

Becks Run Road reopened Thursday afternoon Water was moving quickly enough to wash away chunks of roadway. A driver was rescued from the rising water.

There were storm-related shut downs and delays on Port Authority T lines and landslides were reported in Overbrook, Baldwin and Whitehall.

While storms were battering the South Hills areas closer to the airport only saw a light sprinkle.

The area could see a popup shower later Thursday morning.
