PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) – Seventeen years later we remember those who sacrificed everything on September 11, 2001.  We remember those we lost and honor the brave men and women who continue to serve and fight for our country.

Steve Monteleone, founder and president of It’s About the Warrior Foundation joined Robert Mangino on the KDKA Radio Afternoon News to remember September 11th.

Monteleone says, “On this day 17 years ago, I remember being at home and my wife calling me, telling me to turn on the TV and I remember seeing the second plane crashing into the second tower.”

“I remember my first instinct was we are under attack and my second instinct was just anger being a veteran and just thinking we are at war.”

In 2012, Monteleone started the It’s About the Warrior Foundation, a foundation set up to help veterans after their service.

“We have a brand new office in Wexford, PA where we provide our veterans with different types of therapy, a financial grant program to help with overdue mortgages and bills, as well as our outreach program.”

Monteleone adds, “When you go into combat and you’ve been in that situation and keep going back, it’s all you really know.  So when they come out of that environment it is tough for them to change and get back into society.”

The foundation and Monteleone do the best that they can to help get veterans back on their feet.

There is an Open House, at the new location Tuesday night from 4-8 PM, stop by and check it out, veteran or not.
