PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Marty Griffin returned to the air Tuesday for the first time in two weeks.

He announced at the beginning of “The Inside Story” that he had surgery to have his tonsils removed and only expected to miss three or four days, but says he lost his voice and the pain was more than he imagined.

“Here I am blown up in pain, unmanageable. Can’t swallow, can’t eat, can’t do anything.”

Marty says although he is in pain, he missed being on the radio and thanked everyone who sent him a note asking about where he was.

“I am glad to be back and thanks to each and every one of you for being kind enough and trying to find out . . . where I was.”

Marty also addressed his departure from KDKA-TV.

He says he left to start a new business called Sparkt, a website that he compares to his Get Marty segments.

“We’re launching very soon. We’re going to make a difference in your life every day. The whole point of Sparkt is the whole point of Get Marty. Let’s do magnificent things . . . we’re going to do things that change lives.”

Marty adds he wouldn’t be where he is without his time at KDKA-TV.

“God Bless them. Their amazing . . . people and my friends to the very core and the greatest TV station I ever worked for in my life.”

Marty says there is a lot more to talk about in the upcoming weeks with his personal and professional life and is excited for what’s next.
