PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Kennywood, Sandcastle, Idlewild are hiring additional seasonal staff as opening day for season passholders gets closer. Opening for all three parks this year was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The parks open to the general public on July 11, but season passholders can go beginning July 7.

“Working at Kennywood is a great entry on any young adult’s resume,” said Joe Barron, Human Resources Director for Kennywood and Sandcastle. “But it’s also a wonderful opportunity for professionals looking to get back to work, or supplement their income with a job that’s engaging, unique and often quite fun!”

In total Kennywood needs about 1,500 people to work rides, games, concessions and more. Idlewild and Sandcastle need approximately 800 and 400, respectively. In addition, Sandcastle and Idlewild are also hiring lifeguards and offering free training.

All parks are near their hiring goals, but are making a final push as opening day draws near. Off-season recruitment efforts were slowed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Additional emphasis will also be placed on cleaning and sanitation this year. “We’re devoting more Team Members to cleaning and sanitizing than ever before,” said Idlewild & SoakZone Human Resources Director Jimmy Singer. “We have modified our recruitment, orientation and training processes to best ensure the health and safety of our staff from their first minutes on the job.”

Anyone interested in applying for a job at one of the parks can do so on any of their websites:

Earlier in the week, Kennywood announced that while the park would be open in October, Phantom Fright Nights has been canceled for this year.
