PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Since the beginning of June, Kennywood has been teasing their fans with “Project 412”, a project to replace the Log Jammer.

At a press conference Thursday Kennywood announced the new coaster will be a partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“The Steel Curtain” will debut in 2019. Kennywood’s PR director Nick Paradise says the new coaster will break three records.

The coaster, made by S&S Worldwide, will feature the tallest inversion of 197 feet, will carry 24 passengers at a time, will be 220 feet high and will reach a top speed of 75 mph.

Pete Barto with S&S says the ride will have “over 4,000 feet of track, two 24 passenger trains manufactured in the U.S. It’s going to be made up of almost three million pounds of steel for the track and structure alone.”

Barto adds it will be a custom made roller coaster and will be the largest coaster they have ever built.

Paradise says the coaster will be a part of the bigger “Steelers Country” that will occupy about three acres of Kennywood.

Fans will go through a tunnel to enter “Steelers Country” into a welcome plaza that will feature a Steelers logo water feature, a dining area called the “End Zone Café” and other outdoor places to get food.

There will also be Steeler themed midway games and a Steelers experience building that give kids and adult a chance to test their football skills.

The 3-acre area should be completed by the beginning of the 2019 season, "bringing parkgoers into the excitement of professional sports like never before."
