PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - We now know when Kennywood’s most anticipated ride in years will open.

The amusement park announced Friday "The Steel Curtain" Coaster will officially open on July 13.

The coaster, made by S&S Worldwide, features the world's tallest inversion of 197 feet, carries 24 passengers at a time, is 220 feet high and reaches a top speed of 75 mph.

Pete Barto with S&S said when the project was announced the ride has “over 4,000 feet of track, two 24 passenger trains manufactured in the U.S."

It's made up of almost three million pounds of steel for the track and structure alone.

The custom made roller coaster is largest coaster S&S have ever built.

The coaster is part of the bigger “Steelers Country” that  occupies about three acres of Kennywood.

The larger area will open later this summer, but a gift shop is expected to open along with the “Steel Curtain”.

Fans will go through a tunnel to enter “Steelers Country” into a welcome plaza that will feature a Steelers logo water feature, a dining area called the “End Zone Café” and other outdoor places to get food.
