PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The most significant traffic restrictions of the summer construction season are now in effect.

PennDOT’s Steve Cowan tells KDKA Radio the preparation work for the northbound crossover into the HOV lanes means “Northbound I-279 from the Ft. Duquesne Bridge to approximately Hazlet Street will be reduced to a single lane.”

Once the new configuration is in place, as early as 7 p.m. Saturday night, Cowan says two northbound lanes will shift to the HOV just south of McKnight Road exit.

A local lane will remain on the HOV with access to exits Perrysville, Bellevue and Camp Horne Road. Fans exiting the Penguins game may want to find a new route.
PennDOT posted the following detour in a news release:

  • Motorists will travel south on Route 19
  • Turn left onto Ivory Avenue
  • Turn left onto Nelson Run Road
  • Turn left onto West View Avenue
  • Merge onto McKnight Road
  • Continue straight onto Evergreen Road which becomes East Street
  • Take the ramp to northbound I-279 at the Hazlett Street interchange
  • End detour
