PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Local police are warning people of a scam involving Amazon.

Shaler Police say they are currently investigating a scam and have received several reports involving someone that is posing as an Amazon representative.

“This “rep” requested the victims to make a payment by having the victim purchase ebay and Target gift cards and then read the numbers,” Shaler Police said on their website.

There are been warnings all across the country of people using Amazon to try to scam people out of their money.

“This scam has originated by a direct phone call and from an official looking email. These scams are well rehearsed and initially appear legitimate.”

Amazon or any other legitimate process will not ask for you to purchase gift cards.

The elderly are usually the target in these kinds of scams.
