HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh State Representative Jake Wheatley is renewing his call for legalized marijuana in Pennsylvania.

House Bill 20-50 introduced today would channel some income from legal marijuana sales to social justice programs like student debt, after school programs and affordable housing.

At a Harrisburg news conference, Wheatley was asked about Republican opposition to legal pot.

“Anyone in this Capital dome that’s refusing to listen to the citizens of this commonwealth primarily based on their own view of the world, I think is doing a disservice to themselves and to the office.”

Wheatley says his bill would give low income communities access to marijuana that they now lack through legalized medical marijuana.

“I think there’s some barriers to allowing for their access, primarily there might be transportation or access to a facility or might be the cost itself.”

The measure includes expungement of cannabis-related criminal offenses for non-violent offenders.
