PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) Pittsburgh area teacher named Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year by Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The award was given to North Hills Middle School teacher Joseph Welch, announced Monday by Senator Lindsey M. Williams.

Welch is a history and social studies teacher at North Hills Middle School and was previously named the state’s History Teacher of the Year in 2018.

In the same year, he became the youngest teacher to ever hold the title of the National History Teacher of the Year.

With the title, Welch will speak with and collaborate other teachers around Pennsylvania to help better education across the state.

Nominations for Teacher of the Year can be made by other teachers, parents, and students to recognize teachers who are great teachers in the classroom as well as in the community.

Welch will also be given the opportunity to attend Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
