LRT Track Repairs Mean Delays, Changes For Commuters Through Wednesday

October 15, 2018 - 2:07 pm

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — The Port Authority says the Mount Washington transit tunnel should reopen Wednesday morning.

A portion of the LRT tracks will be closed between South Hills Junction and Station Square. The Post-Gazette reports two small cracks found in the LRT tracks Monday have been repaired.

Inbound trains and buses will be detoured on the Allentown line so outbound cars can use the inbound tracks. That means inbound trains will not stop at Station Square.

Riders heading outbound should board buses and rail cars from the inbound platform at Station Square while the detour is in effect.

Outbound buses will use the Wabash Tunnel, which will probably remain closed to inbound traffic Tuesday morning.

Riders who want to ride into town from Station Square should take a bus from the stop across East Carson Street. Otherwise, they will need to ride the T outbound to South Hills Junction and re-board inbound to ride the Allentown detour into the city.
