The KDKA Radio host is fighting cancer caused by the HPV Virus

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Late Sunday, KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin gave an update on why he has been absent from the airwaves.

He said while he is getting better and the combination of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation is working, it is also affecting his voice.

“I’m actually getting a lot better except when you get this radiation, they direct it right here (pointing to his throat) and that is my voice box so I will most likely be off the air for a couple more weeks,” Griffin said on Facebook Live.

Griffin, who is being treated for cancer he got from having the HPV virus, said treatment has not been a “breeze” but he has learned a lot about himself, has appreciated how much love and support he has received and is happy to have potentially prevented thousands of others from developing cancer by encouraging them to get vaccinated for HPV.

About to begin week six of treatment, Griffin said his voice just can’t handle talking for three hours and that he will be back on KDKA Radio as soon as he can.

You can follow “Marty’s Journey” on his website Sparkt, where you can find his latest videos along with plenty of information on HPV and the vaccine available.
