Mike Gallagher Reminds Us It's Still St. Patrick's Day

The longtime Irish music performer was joined by his wife for a small concert on Facbook

The 2020 celebration has been mainly subdued due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

There wasn't an official St. Patrick's Day parade and parades were canceled in places like Boston and even Dublin.

Medical professionals and government officials are urging people to severely reduce our day-to-day activities in an effort to help slow the spread of the disease.

If a large number of people were to contract the virus at the same time it would overrun our hospitals and health systems.

If this is not done, the U.S. could quickly see a situation like what is currently happening in Iran and Italy where thousands have already died.

So with all that happening it didn’t really feel like St. Patrick’s Day, until I saw my Uncle Mike’s performance on Facebook Tuesday evening.

Mike has been a staple on the KDKA Radio Morning News over nearly a decade now but that was impossible this year.

In addition to not playing on KDKA, Mike had to cancel his normal parade day performances and if he played today there wouldn’t be anyone to see him.

So instead of going without his voice that has been well-known by thousands around Pittsburgh for 40 years, he gave us a small concert accompanied by his wife Marlea.

I encourage you to give a listen and hopefully the luck of the Irish can lead us through this pandemic and we all come out more humble and kind on the other side.
