Mike Pintek's Listeners Kept Him Going While He Battled Cancer

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – While Mike Pintek was battling inoperable pancreatic cancer, there were many things that kept him going; his family, loved ones, friends, the doctors and nurses of UPMC as well as his zest for life. Through all of this, one of the most important things to him was the support and encouragement he got from his listeners.

Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, the amount of letters, phone calls and emails he received during battle was too many to count.

During a video Mike filmed last year after he revealed his diagnosis publically, he expressed his gratitude to everyone who reached out.

“It would almost be an impossible task to try to thank each and every one of you individually, so I wanted to acknowledge that you have touched me to the core of my soul with your expressions of sympathy and comfort and caring and prayers, and I wanted to let you know that my heartfelt thanks goes to each and every one of you.”

A few weeks after he made his diagnosis public, Mike updated his listeners and once again expressed his gratitude for all of the support he received.

“Sometimes I get down in the dumps about the whole thing and that’s where some of these [letters> come in,” Mike said holding a stack of letter. “When I get down particularly I’ll read these [letters> and I realize that you’re out there and you’re expressing these things in the best tradition of Western Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh comes together and it doesn’t matter about politics, it doesn’t matter about any of those things.”

We want to thank you for all of the support you gave Mike during his battle.

Pittsburgh, what an amazing place!
