Morning Showers Heavier Than Expected

Nearly an inch will fall in some places by the time the rain wraps up

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Forecasted showers turned into a downpour Wednesday morning.

AccuWeather’s Heather Zehr tells KDKA Radio today’s front was more powerful than expected:

“The thunder, that was somewhat unexpected this morning as well as the amount of rain because yes we were expecting maybe closer to a half of an inch but there will be places that end up with a solid inch of rain,” said Zehr.

Zehr says the rain will be gone by this afternoon and isn’t too concerned about flooding, but adds the wind will stick around:

“Peak winds as we go through the overnight hours and into the day tomorrow are going to be around 30 mph maybe 40 in a few places though that’s probably in the Laurels,” said Zehr.

Pittsburgh has seen more than 42 inches of rain this year. The total this time last year was over 46 inches and that rose to a record of nearly 58 inches by the end of the year.
