PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Thanks to some extra money from the state, another project is coming to the Parkway East

District 11 PennDOT Executive Cheyl Moon-Siriani tells the KDKA Radio Morning News work on the section from the Fort Pitt Bridge to the Edgewood-Swissvale exit is underway.

"We're going to be repaving that whole road from shoulder to shoulder and we're also doing what's called bridge dam replacement. All those bridge dams that go bump when you go over them; those are going to be replaced."

The bridge dam work will require a complete shutdown of the interstate.

One plan would force a complete closure of the Parkway for two weekends later this year and eight in 2019

Moon-Siriani says another one of the options being considered is a four day closure around Christmas.

Paving will begin on August 10 with a one-lane closure

Moon-Siriani also provided an update on the Parkway North, saying work there is "moving along very well." She expects that work to be complete by the end of August.
