Multiple People Shot At Fayette County District Judge's Office

Several people shot, including a police officer in Masontown

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) – There was a shooting in Masontown, Fayette County this afternoon on East Church Street.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Masontown Municipal building which houses the office of District Magistrate Daniel Shimshock. 

Four people were shot, including a Masontown police officer, who has been identified as Sargent R. Scott Miller.  He was shot in the hand. 

The other three victims were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.  Two males age 47 and 35 and a 39-year-old female. 

Lieutenant Steve Dowlin, Station Commander of the Uniontown Station of the State Police said, “One of the officers from the German Township Police Department encountered the armed gunman and fired multiple round from his service weapon.”

“The gunman was fatally wounded.”

The identity of the gunman has not been released out of respect for his family and his next of kin. 

Fayette County District Attorney Richard Bower said, “One of the cases today involved a male charged with strangulation, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and simple assault.”

“This was a result of a domestic situation that occurred a few weeks ago.”
