PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – A new national marketing campaign for the Pittsburgh region features the iconic parking chair used to save a parking spot.

But, “Pull Up A Chair, You Are Welcomed Here” also shows that offering someone a chair is a universal sign of hospitality and respect.

The two minute video that leads the campaign shows chairs in restaurants and theaters, rocking chairs, porch chairs, and wheelchairs. It shows the Fred Rogers and Art Rooney statues with both men on chairs.

Visit Pittsburgh Marketing Director Tom Loftus says, “This time we want to focus on the welcoming spirit of our city and our residents by encapsulating moments that will encourage people to visit our great city and inspire Pittsburghers across the world to share the message.”

The campaign will launch nationally April 29.

Visit Pittsburgh, which came up with the campaign and produced the video, will use digital platforms like Facebook and other social media and paid media.

The video will play on the big board at Times Square in New York City. It will also show on movie screens at five theaters in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC before the Mr. Rogers movie, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, this fall.

Loftus says this is the first national marketing campaign for Pittsburgh in seven or eight years.

It will target both drive and fly markets including Boston, Chicago, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington, DC.

Visit Pittsburgh expects to spend half a million dollars on paid media.
