PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates will be in Pittsburgh next week.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and Tom Steyer will be in Pittsburgh on Saturday, December 14th for the “Public Education Forum 2020” at the David L. Convention Center.

MSNBC journalists will moderate the day-long event in which the candidates will individually answer questions from representatives of a 11-member coalition, including Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers and One Pennsylvania.

“I’m extremely proud of our union membership, community leaders, education activists and public schools all coming together to be a part of this forum,” Nina Esposito-Visgitis, president of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, said. “In Pittsburgh, we try to solve tough education challenges with innovative solutions in a pragmatic, collaborative manner. We won’t shy away from asking tough, fair, probing questions of these candidates.”

Pittsburgh beat out Chicago, Boston, and other cities in hosting this forum.

“Local school board elections have shown that American voters place public education and school funding for children as a top priority issue,” Pam Harbin, a newly elected member of the Pittsburgh Public School board, said. “Education voters will turn out for Presidential candidates who are champions for our students and public schools.”

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette also reports that two other Democratic presidential candidates may also attend the forum.
