Expect Light Rail Delays This Holiday Weekend

No Red Line service inbound between Palm Garden and Castle Shannon

May 24, 2018 - 6:10 pm

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) – Light Rail commuters should prepare for delays this weekend. Red Line riders should prepare for a rather circular commute.

The Port Authority will be replacing a rail switch along the south Busway near South Hills Junction. The work will close the Red Line inbound between Castle Shannon and Palm Garden from 8 p.m. Thursday until the end of service Monday.

Red Line riders between those two points traveling inbound will have to take an outbound train to Willow/Overbrook Junction and transfer to any inbound train.

Stops affected include Palm Garden, Dawn, Pennant, Westfield, Fallowfield, Hampshire, Belasco, Shiras, Stevenson, Potomac, Dormont, Mt. Lebanon, Poplar, Arlington and Castle Shannon.

Transfers at Willow/Overbrook Junction will be free.

Inbound Red Line riders south of Castle Shannon can get Downtown on any inbound vehicle.

The Port Authority says they are completing the work on a holiday weekend with the expectation there will be fewer commuters.

All T riders should plan for delays of up to 30 minutes throughout the city.

Riders are encouraged to call Port Authority Customer Service at 412-442-2000 or 412-231-7007 for TTY for questions or comments.
